Societas Rerum Imperii (formerly the Society for Medieval Imperial History) was founded in the year 2005 in order to provide a forum for Anglophone scholars whose research interests concern the eastern Frankish regna, the German kingdom, the Holy Roman Empire, and those regions that were part of their broader spheres of cultural and political influence during the Middle Ages. The society welcomes historians in any field—social, political, economic, religious, intellectual, cultural, gender, military, etc.—who would like to join a community of scholars whose aim is to increase dialogue about the medieval empire in the west, a topic that is too often neglected in English-language scholarship today.
